Galgotias University IEEE Chapter Secures National 'Best Chapter' Title as Gaurang Pant Clinches Prestigious Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship

Galgotias University has achieved a monumental double triumph on the national and international stage as its IEEE Computer Society Student Chapter was crowned with the ‘Best Computer Society Chapter’ in India award at the All India Computer Society Student & Young Professionals Congress 2025 (AICSSYC 2025). This premier recognition, secured under the visionary leadership of Galgotias University student Gaurang Pant, underscores the institution's rising dominance in technical excellence. In a simultaneous feat of global individual brilliance, Gaurang Pant, a third-year B.Tech student of Computer Science and Engineering, has been honored with the international Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship, marking a historic milestone as the first student from the university to receive this accolade from the IEEE Computer Society—the world’s largest professional organization dedicated to computing and information technology.

The national recognition was formalised during the high-profile AICSSYC 2025 event organized by the IEEE Computer Society in Kolkata, a summit where the country’s brightest students and professionals converged to demonstrate technical projects, leadership initiatives, and community engagement. The IEEE Computer Society at Galgotias University dominated the national "Battle of Chapters," clinching first place based on a rigorous evaluation of their innovative technical activities, impactful community involvement, and exemplary leadership over the past year. This outstanding performance earned the chapter a cash prize of USD 500, serving as an official acknowledgment of their superior contributions to the field.

The international Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship awarded to Gaurang Pant carries immense prestige, established in memory of the 1993 IEEE Computer Society President, Richard E. Merwin (1924-2000), to incentivize academic brilliance and active participation within the global computing community. Recipients are selected from a worldwide pool based on stringent criteria including academic performance, significant contributions to the IEEE Computer Society, and their ability to serve as representatives who promote innovation, teamwork, and development among peers.
